Medical Writing Workshops

Effective scientific writing is a vital skill. Crafting a publication demands time and effort and can often feel challenging. The good news is that scientific writing skills can be learned!

This year, the ESCRS Congress offers two workshops on medical writing:

Beginner Medical Writing Workshop

Registration is complimentary but required, limited to 40 persons per session. You can choose from one of the following sessions below:

First steps in scientific publishing for attendees with little to no experience!

This intensive three-hour medical writing workshop will help you strengthen your writing skills. The session combines theoretical insights and a practical workshop with proven techniques that help to shorten the learning curve and increase the likelihood of a successful publication.

The workshop speakers will present strategies and common mistakes to avoid when creating tables, graphics, or figures. In addition, the dos and don’ts of writing the methodology, results, and discussion will be covered. There will be a special focus on the development of the discussion section and the interpretation of the clinical results. We will discuss how artificial intelligence and digital tools affect paper writing today. The workshop will focus on basic principles, while the advanced workshop will move into more complex strategies.

Attendees are encouraged bring their laptop/tablet and ongoing writing project to work on during the interactive portion of the workshop.

Prerequisites

All participants should have completed a scientific (clinical) project, including data analysis, before attending this workshop. Participants should now be in the stage of preparing or finalizing their paper. They should also bring their laptops/tablets.

Advanced Medical Writing Workshop

Mastering advanced writing techniques for attendees with several independently-written publications

This intensive three-hour workshop is designed for people with prior writing experience who want to refine their skills and strengthen their manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.

The session combines advanced writing strategies with practical exercises focused on revision, clarity, and impactful scientific communication. Participants will gain insights into structuring the discussion section, interpreting clinical findings effectively, and responding to reviewer comments. In addition, we will explore how digital tools and artificial intelligence are shaping the future of scientific writing and revisions.

This session is ideal for those seeking to move beyond the basics and elevate their writing to meet the standards of high-impact journals.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops or tablets, along with a manuscript draft or revision of a manuscript, to apply workshop techniques during the interactive portion of the session.

Participants should now be in the stage of preparing their paper or revising a paper. They should also bring their laptops/tablets.
