ESCRS Sustainability Suppliers and Partners

Over the years the MiCo’s management company has pursued its sustainability goals through a combination of technology and innovative products, goods and services. In recognition of its achievements in 2021 MiCo obtained the Gold Level LEED O + M environmental certification and is in the process of achieving both ISO 14001 and the 9001 Standards.

Some highlights:

  • The lighting used in the convention centre has new-generation LED lamps (with DALI technology) which reduces energy consumption by up to 60 % and extends the life of the equipment in use.
  • Most of the water fountains inside MiCo are directly connected to the local water supply so you can enjoy fresh drinking water as often as you like and not have to have the plastic footprint that bottled water carries.
  • Preserving biodiversity is a key aspect of environmental actions for an organisation and MiCo are proud of their “Bee Farm” that has bee hives set up in the garden of the convention centre. Approximately 40 kilograms of honey is harvested every year and shared with our customers, partners and employees.
  • It also offers 1,500 rooms available, all within 5 minutes walking distance from the venue. A further 15,000 rooms are situated within a radius of 5 kilometres. These varied options mean visitors can choose to walk or use public transport as suits them best and know that there are no excessive carbon emissions to offset.

The Compass Group through its own endeavours, offers a reliable and extensive catering service for the ESCRS Congress in 2022. They are UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 Certified for their environmental management system. Extending their influence, they prioritise external partners who actively pursue similar goals and that have the tools, procedures, and certifications to back up their claims.

Some highlights:

  • When it comes to serving utensils, they use items that are recyclable and offer organic choices based on the needs of the client. Their executive dietician oversees all menus.
  • From a social aspect, they partner with Banco Alimentare-Siticibo, an Italian charity working in Lombardy that collects leftover food from events and re-distributes it to families in need.

This hotel group sets the standard in terms of producing a standalone sustainability report of the venue’s annual operations. It further communicates its achievements to its guests, staff and suppliers. There is a dedicated human resource for guiding its sustainability practises and they oversee practical things like choosing recyclable materials for serving and in choosing A2A energy that is generated from 100% renewal sources.

The hotel is in walking distance from MiCo and public transport connections.
