ESCRS Sustainable Events – Carbon Off-Setting
Our Mission Zero initiative guides how the Congress is planned, delivered, and evaluated, with four sustainability objectives leading our efforts: Inspire Action, Towards Zero Waste, Towards Zero Emissions, and Social Responsibility.
Our sustainability journey has been a long-standing commitment, with a structured strategy in place since 2022 to continuously improve the environmental performance of the Congress. Within this framework, we prioritise actions that reduce emissions at source – including reducing waste, improving recycling and composting, lowering food miles through responsible sourcing, and promoting more sustainable travel options.
Despite these efforts, some emissions associated with the Congress remain unavoidable. To address it, ESCRS works with its carbon programme partner South Pole to support carefully selected Gold Standard-certified climate projects. These projects undergo rigorous independent verification and are designed to deliver real and measurable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions while also generating meaningful social and environmental co-benefits.
Your registration includes a contribution to offset the carbon emissions generated in your travel to London. ESCRS is working to organise a net zero waste and emissions Congress, and we are committed to calculating, reducing and offsetting the event’s carbon emissions through a certified Gold Standard project. ESCRS Member | Available only to current members of the ESCRS.
ESCRS Non-Member | Available to ophthalmologists and medical doctors.
Trainee (Age limit is 35) | Available to all trainees / residents under 35 years of age. A letter of verification from department chairperson or clinical supervisor is required at the time of registration, along with photo ID and proof of date of birth.
Orthoptist | Available only to orthoptists. Documentation is also required for this registration type. Work ID or letter from your hospital.
Ophthalmic Nurse / Technician | Available only to ophthalmic nurses, technicians, and assistants. Documentation is also required for this registration type. Work ID or letter from your hospital.
Healthcare Professional | Includes optometrists, practice managers, PhDs, MBAs, healthcare administrators, office support staff, ophthalmic photographers and other healthcare professionals. Commercial representatives are not entitled to pay this fee. Documentation is also required for this registration type. Work ID or letter from your employer or hospital.
Corporate | Available to commercial representatives and corporate personnel who have a legitimate educational or business reason for attending, but do not have a product or service to exhibit. No solicitation is permitted. Employees of exhibiting companies are not entitled to pay this fee and must register via the relevant contact from their company.

Access to the virtual platform during the live event and up to one month post-Congress.
The Cornea Day, Glaucoma Day, WSPOS Day, ESCRS iNovation® , Surgical Skills Labs and Instructional Courses and Workshops will not be live-streamed nor recorded and thus not available on-demand.

- Delegates travelling from outside the United Kingdom may require a visa, Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), or other entry documentation to attend the Congress.
- You can check your requirements on the official UK government immigration website here.
- Once your registration is completed and payment confirmed, you may request an official Congress invitation letter to support your visa or travel application. Please note that the Congress cannot influence UK visa decisions.
