Carbon Offsetting Approach

Our Mission Zero initiative guides how the Congress is planned, delivered, and evaluated.

Four sustainability objectives lead our efforts: Inspire Action, Towards Zero Waste, Towards Zero Emissions, and Social Responsibility.

Our sustainability journey has been a long-standing commitment, with a structured strategy in place since 2022 to continuously improve the environmental performance of the Congress. Within this framework, we prioritise actions that reduce emissions at source – including reducing waste, improving recycling and composting, lowering food miles through responsible sourcing, and promoting more sustainable travel options.

Despite these efforts, some emissions associated with the Congress remain unavoidable. To address it, ESCRS works with its carbon programme partner South Pole to support carefully selected Gold Standard-certified climate projects. These projects undergo rigorous independent verification and are designed to deliver real and measurable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions while also generating meaningful social and environmental co-benefits.

Your registration includes a contribution to offset the carbon emissions generated in your travel to London. ESCRS is working to organise a net zero waste and emissions Congress, and we are committed to calculating, reducing and offsetting the event’s carbon emissions through a certified Gold Standard project. Thank you for your support.
