Media Policy

Media Policy for the 43rd Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) welcomes the interest of the media, and we offer free media registration to bona fide journalists who want to attend our Congress.

Registration

Media registration in advance is strongly recommended. On-site registration is permitted but cannot be guaranteed.

Media registration entitles the holder to the following:

  • Live face-to-face access to all sessions in the official programme
  • Virtual access of live streamed sessions and on-demand for 1 month after the Congress*
  • Use of the onsite press office and its facilities
  • Access to official press releases

*Pre-congress days (WSPOS, Glaucoma, Cornea and ESCRS iNovation® Day) are not recorded nor streamed. Some instructional courses and poster presentations are not recorded nor streamed.

To register, journalists must provide: a valid, recognised press card OR a commissioning letter on headed paper from a recognised news outlet AND two relevant, by-lined examples of their work, published within the last two years.

To register: Please email press@office.escrs.org with the relevant documentation above and you will provided with a code to self-register here on the Congress website.

The ESCRS reserves the right to withhold approval of press registration if the applicant and/or the outlet do not satisfy the criteria for press registration.

Please note: Representatives of public relations companies, advertising agencies, marketing companies, pharmaceutical companies and their publications are not permitted to register as journalists, but they are welcome to register as regular participants at the Congress. Information about registered media belongs to the ESCRS and their media consultants and is not available to be given, rented, or sold.

Embargoes

Please respect embargo times and dates. The majority of the Congress abstracts will be published on the Congress website in August 2025 and can be reported from that time onwards.

Abstracts that will form part of the official media programme will not be published until the day they are to be presented to the Congress and will be embargoed to that day.

Embargo dates and times are given on the press releases. When asking for outside comment on press releases before the embargo has lifted, journalists are requested to ensure that those consulted understand and accept the embargo conditions.

Filming, Recording and Photography

Filming and recording of Congress sessions for publication in print, online or broadcast media is prohibited unless permission has been obtained from the ESCRS press office.

Flash photography is not permitted in Congress sessions. Photography of posters is forbidden for publication unless the presenting author has given permission. Anyone who does not abide by these regulations will be refused access to the Congress.

Social Media

Posting on social media is permitted unless otherwise specified.

Please use the official Congress hashtag (#ESCRS2025). Please refer to our code of conduct here.

Third-party Media Activity

All third-party press releases relating to Congress abstracts must be labelled clearly with the abstract number, time and date of presentation to the Congress.

All third-party media materials and any other press releases related to the Congress should be submitted to, and agreed by, the ESCRS press office (press@office.escrs.org) before they are issued to the media.

Use of ESCRS Logos

The ESCRS logos are property of ESCRS and protected by trademark. Third-party media materials must not contain ESCRS logos without explicit permission and must not be presented in any way that could be construed as suggesting endorsement by the ESCRS.

To obtain permission to use an ESCRS logo, please contact the ESCRS team (escrs@escrs.org) and state how you intend to use the logo.

Please note, approval will not be granted in cases which are considered commercial in aim, or which appear to imply endorsement from ESCRS.
